Front Range Airport

Rocky Mountain Airways

Why does Rocky Mountain Airways (RMA) have a page on the Front Range Airport (FTG) site?
The short answer is Dennis Heap – he worked for RMA for fifteen years at the beginning of his aviation career and will end his aviation career at FTG, but not soon! Upper management skills attained at RMA were used at FTG, creating a one-word definition of both: FAMILY.

RMA is a story of an airline which began as Vail Airways in 1965, changed its name to Rocky Mountain Airways in 1968, was sold to Texas Air and began operating as Continental Express in 1986. There is no physical evidence of RMA today; however, the airline continues to live in the hearts and minds of its employees and the communities that fondly called it Rocky Mountain "Scareways."

FTG is a story of the last general aviation airport constructed in Colorado. It began operations in 1984, planning to be the "Cargo Center" of Colorado. In 1994 it had to reinvent itself when cargo did not happen. FTG constructed the tallest GA Air Traffic Control Tower in the United States in 2005, and today is completing infrastructure capable of accommodating large aircraft.
